Braunton Burrows: Explore the military history of Devon’s iconic dunes

Event Date: 8th November 2022, 18:00

Event Category: Talk / Conference

Join WWII military historian Richard Bass to learn about the sand dune’s vital role as an American forces training ground.

In this talk, Richard Bass will be our guide through some of the Burrow’s fascinating historical highlights. This dune system in North Devon was used as an important military training ground for American forces during the Second World War, and plenty of artefacts and infrastructure remains can still be seen or identified among the dunes. We’ll learn about the function and purpose of the Assault Training Center, and see what’s left today.
