This project enabled 2 new exhibitions and involved the restoration of a room within the Abbey and the creation of new interpretation boards about the AONB, the management of the estate, and the filming on the Estate since 1934.
The History of the Hartland Abbey Estate is a small display in the restored old Housekeeper’s room which had previously been used as a junk store since the war! It is now a lovely exhibition space.
Filming on the Hartland Abbey Estate since 1934. Many images of film sets, actors and actresses from the past 82 years of filming on the estate, and the stories behind them, including ‘Water’ with Michael Caine and Billy Connolly,’ The Shout’ with Alan Bates, Susannah York, a very young John Hurt and an even younger Jim Broadbent, ‘Sense and Sensibility’ with Dan Stevens, David Morrissey and Dominic Cooper, and recently, ‘The Night Manager’ with Tom Hiddleston.
