The North Devon Coast AONB is defined by its Special Qualities. These are what make our AONB so special. There are 14 Special Qualities and for each of these we have chosen a place within the AONB where you can see what we mean.

Special Quality 8 – A strong sense of tranquillity and remoteness where the coast road is located away from the coastline.

Away from the major settlements and resorts there is a strong sense of peace and tranquillity within the AONB. Only a couple of miles out of Clovelly lies the isolated beach at Mouthmill, which in this image was photographed from National Trust land on the Iron Age Hillfort at Windbury Head.
