Sand Dunes at Braunton Burrows

The North Devon Coast AONB is defined by its Special Qualities. These are what make our AONB so special. There are 14 Special Qualities and for each of these we have chosen a place within the AONB where you can see what we mean.

Special Quality 6 –  A vast sand dune system at Braunton Burrows of exposed wild character, with high nature-conservation interest of international importance, and the pebble ridge at Westward Ho!

The vast sand dune system of Braunton Burrows viewed from the South West Coast path near Saunton. This wild and desolate place is the most designated place in the South West because of its nature conservation interest it is estimated that Braunton is the most biodiverse Parish in England, boasting over 400 species of plants and animals. The well-known dune system is one of the largest and best within the whole of the UK.
