This is one of a series of surveys in 2026 watching for sea mammals along the North Devon coast.
Working in pairs, or more, participants will be allocated different headlands and other vantage points along the coast to watch for and record sea mammals and other marine and coastal wildlife over a synchronised two-hour period.
Observers will have taken part in an earlier training in April to learn how to survey and record findings. They will have been given full safety briefings and been allocated different locations. However, non-trained participants are very welcome to attend any of the locations regardless of prior knowledge. To take part, be allocated a site and get more information, please contact Mark Ward via [email protected] at least a week in advance. For these synchronised surveys, the organisers will not be liable for any participants; you will be asked to agree to take part at your own risk.
To take part in the surveys you may need to have access to transport to reach the survey points and some level of mobility (depending on sites you are allocated to survey).
This initiative is supported by: Coastwise North Devon, MARINELife, North Devon Coast National Landscape, Devon Wildlife Trust and Earth Action North Devon.
