Sea Mammal Survey Training

The Braunton Countryside Centre are organising a series of surveys watching for sea mammals along the North Devon coast with associated training. Join us for this initial session on 26 April and discover how you can take part throughout the year. This initiative is being supported by: Coastwise North Devon, MARINELife, North Devon Coast National Landscape, Devon Wildlife Trust and Earth Action North Devon.

This session is free to attend; booking is required via the form on the BCC website (link below). Donations on the day for the training session to support the Braunton Countryside Centre* would be gratefully received.

All welcome regardless of prior knowledge. To take part in the surveys throughout the year you will need to have access to transport to reach the survey points and some level of mobility (depending on sites you elect to survey).

Plan for the day:

11am – 12.30pm: Braunton Countryside Centre

Introduction:

  • Survey techniques and data recording protocol
  • Sea mammal identification
  • Health and safety and how to register for ‘synchronised’ and group surveys throughout the year.

2pm – 4.30pm: Baggy Point (meet at National Trust Car Park)

Practising surveying (bring binoculars/scopes if you have them).
