The North Devon Coast AONB is defined by its Special Qualities. These are what make our AONB so special. There are 14 Special Qualities and for each of these we have chosen a place within the AONB where you can see what we mean.

Special Quality 13 – Small pockets of remnant lowland coastal heathlands around Morte Point and Hartland Quay

Although we have lost over 90% of our lowland coastal heathlands in the South West, some small pockets still remain, of particular note are these heathlands photographed above Blackpool Mill on the Hartland Coast. In the late summer and autumn they provide a riot of colour along the coastline of North Devon.
