Hele Bay, including the settlement of Hele is an attractive location on the northern edge of Ilfracombe. It has a rich history and, located close to the Iron Age Hillsborough Hillfort, is possibly even older than Ilfracombe itself. The geology of this area is also recognised as a Regionally Important Geological Site for the composition of its rock. The beach is part rock, part sand and a popular place to spend a sunny afternoon.
