Morte Point

The North Devon Coast AONB is defined by its Special Qualities. These are what make our AONB so special. There are 14 Special Qualities and for each of these we have chosen a place within the AONB where you can see what we mean.

Special Quality 2 –  Panoramic seascape, with seaward views to Lundy within the Atlantic Ocean, across the Bristol Channel to Wales and along the coastline. These views are of a landscape and seascape devoid of human influence.

This panoramic view was taken from Morte Point, which is owned and protected by the National Trust. It shows a wide seascape with far reaching views out to Lundy Island and to the Hartland Peninsula across Bideford Bay. The Welsh coast is frequently visible from here and apart from the odd recreational craft, fishing boat and occasional merchant ship heading to and from Bristol is largely devoid of human influence.
