Field called ‘Turnpike Meadow’ on 1802 estate map, ‘Turn Stile Field’ on 1839 TA & 1840 TM (plot No. 170) at location called ‘Turn Round’ on 1889 OS map. Lies to E of hairpin bend in road. Not a turnpike road. Name suggests Civil War defensive structure.
